In the general indexes, direct and reverse, you will find deeds, mortgages and other documents indexed beginning in 1835 and continuing through present day. In October of 1985 the indexes begin on the computer. These records are indexed alphabetically by both grantor and grantee. Other real property records and indexed along with land records in the general index, such as notaries, judgments and liens. These records begin in books, and then are on microfilm from 1979 until 1996, when imaging was implemented.

UCC records are indexed alphabetically by grantor, these indexes are available in both bound volumes (prior to 1987) and on the computer (to present day).

There is a bound index to subdivision plats, it is from 1835- to present day and is indexed alphabetically by name of the subdivision. We have the original plats, microfiche and laminate copies of all subdivisions.

FEES
Recording fees are based on many factors, depending on the type of instrument. However, base fees are as follows:

 

  • 1st page of most documents is $14.00; there is a $3.00 fee for each additional page. Additional names over two incur a $1.00 per name additional fee.
    The only variations from the above are as follows:
  • 1st page of a release/satisfaction of mortgage is $17.00
  • 1st page of an assignment of mortgage is $15.00

Deed and mortgage taxes are collected in accordance with the Code of Alabama, and are as follows:

DEED TAX is collected at the rate of $1.00 per $1000.00 of value; MORTGAGE TAX is collected at the rate of $1.50 per $1000.00 of indebtedness
