About the Sheriff's Department

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department is a full service law enforcement agency serving the citizens of Tallapoosa County. The department is responsible for answering emergency calls, conducting criminal investigations, civil process service, courthouse security, prisoner transports, patrol and other designated duties. Tallapoosa County has over 700 square miles with approximately 1000 miles of roads and a population of 42,000.

The department currently employs a total of fifty-seven (57) full-time employees and thirteen (13) part-time employees in various positions. The department has twenty-five (25) full-time sworn deputy sheriffs and two (2) part-time deputy sheriff.

The Tallapoosa County Jail serves as the detention facility for pre-trial felony defendants, convicted felons and the defendants convicted of misdemeanor offenses in the county. Twenty-four (24) full-time employees and two (2) part-time employee operate the jail, providing a safe and secure place of detention for all committed to the jail.

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department consists of several divisions including investigations, patrol, and crime prevention that provide professional services to the citizens of the county.
