Marriage Licenses

This information is provided for persons interested in purchasing marriage licenses in Montgomery County

General information

  • Both parties must be present to apply for a license (no blood test required).
  • License is $41.00 and is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.
  • Applicants must provide a copy of the divorce decree.
  • Payments accepted: Cash

Guidelines for marriage licenses for persons 18 years or older:
Residents of Alabama

  1. Official Picture ID (passport, military ID, State issued ID, Driver License) or
  2. Certified copy of the state issued birth certificate and 2nd ID such as social security card
  3. Incarcerated applicant
    • Letter of approval from Warden for incarcerated person
    • ID for other party as listed for resident or non resident

Non Residents
NO EXCEPTIONS

  1. Official picture identification (passport, military ID, State issued ID, Driver License)
  2. U. S. Government issued Immigration Services ID Card (green card, visa, alien resident card, etc.). A birth record is not acceptable.

Guidelines for Issuance of Marriage Licenses for Minors 16 or 17 Years of Age

  • Both parents must be present or the custodial parent must provide a certified copy of divorce or legal document that grants care, custody, and control. No affidavits will be accepted in lieu of a missing parent.
  • A certified copy of the state issued birth certificate for the minor
  • Official picture identification for minor and parents(or legal guardian).
  • A social security card.
