6/24/2005 - Special Called Meeting

The Tallapoosa County Commission held a special called meeting June 24, 2005 at the Courthouse in Dadeville, AL at 12:00 a.m. All commissioners were present except Commissioner Coley. Tallapoosa Publishers was also present.

Chairman Oliver called the meeting to order.

Commissioner Shaw gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to award the Pre-Cast Box Culver (bid # 107-FY2005-38) to Sherman Concrete Pipe. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the Preliminary Plat for Cedar Lake Subdivision. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the Preliminary Plat for Glynmere Subdivision (Private) Chairman Oliver seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Thweatt made a motion to appoint Debbie Floyd to the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve for the Chairman Oliver to proceed with Southtrust Bank on financing for three Sheriff's cars. Chairman Oliver seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Chairman Oliver stated that the Courthouse will be closed on Monday July 4, 2005 in honor of Independence Day.

Commissioner Allen stated that the Commission has been getting some heat about the purchase of the pick-up trucks, but the people in his district are proud of the trucks. Commissioner Allen stated that this morning, a black lady approached him to look at the truck. She sat in the truck and stated that as a tax payer, the truck belonged to her. The lady also stated that the County should buy Commissioner Coley a bicycle because he does not have a lot of roads in his district; and it would not take him very long to ride around his roads on a bicycle.

Chairman Oliver made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 12:05.
